P/T MARINA ASSISTANT– Responsible for maintenance and clerical work of the Municipal Marina. Ability to maintain maintenance work orders and clerical records. Ability to perform maintenance duties accurately and safely. Knowledge use of power tools, hand tools and measuring devices. Knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing. Knowledge of boating, weather and familiarity with local waterways. Receives checks, stores and sells a variety of merchandise. Assists in maintaining inventory, Operates cash register. Must be able to handle sales through the use of credit cards. The ability to climb on and off vessels, lift 50lbs and walk an average of five (5) miles per day. Able to work in hot weather conditions. Able to work weekends and all holidays. Must be able to work flexible hours which are often dictated by weather. F/T MAINTENANCE WORKER II (Stormwater) – Semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the City’s stormwater system. Inspects, constructs and repairs City’s detention and retention ponds for treatment of storwater system; flushes and cleans stormwater system; installs, repairs and replaces culverts, curbs, drains, headwalls, catch basins, aprons, and interacts with contractors working on similar or joint projects. Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions of the work. Ability to perform routine tasks associated with the trade. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor tasks for extended periods of time in unfavorable weather conditions. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. The equivalent of three (3) years stormwater facilities construction maintenance, and operation and maintenance of excavation and construction equipment experience is desirable. F/T MAINTENANCE WORKER II (Parks) – Performs semi-skilled work for jobs related to the maintenance of City grounds. Mows and rakes grass, plants, fertilizes and waters grass, shrubs and flowers. Weeds flower beds, collects and disposes of tree limbs, shrub trimmings and other rubbish and debris. Moves and aids in the moving of heavy equipment. Operates power saws, bench grinders, pressure cleaning equipment, tractors, trimmers, small trucks and automotive equipment. Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions. Ability to perform the more routine tasks associated with the trade. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor tasks for extended periods of time in unfavorable weather. Must be able to lift more than 40 pounds. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years’ experience in semi-skilled maintenance work or grounds keeping. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. Entry $12.667 per hour. Open until filled. F/T PLANNER – Professional and technical work involving current and long range planning, economic development, community redevelopment, grant writing and related grant project administration, recycling, utility and transportation matters, affordable housing assistance, census review, mapping, geographic information systems and floodplain management. Assists in the review and amendment of existing codes and regulations including the City Code of Ordinances, Zoning Code and the Comprehensive Plan. Drafts plans, creates maps, and updates official maps such as future land use plan, zoning and waterfront plan. Utilizes the City’s Geographical Information System to produce data, statistics and mapping. Assists in the preparation of the graphic or written data and/or projects for review before City Council, public interest groups and various boards and committees. Knowledge and principles and practices of public planning and community development. Ability to conduct studies, including research methodology and statistical techniques, and to analyze and formulate recommendations based upon the studies. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to City officials, public interest groups, general public and other governmental agencies. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four year degree in planning, public administration, or other related degree and two (2) years of professional experience working for a government agency with related tasks; or, graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in planning, public administration, or other related degree and approximately one (1) year of professional experience working for a government agency with related work tasks. P/T GEMS COORDINATOR– Responsible for coordinating and facilitating the provisions of quality care and transportation of the elderly population. Assists Senior Services Supervisor with the recruitment, hiring, training, and annual evaluations of GEMS staff. Supervises the day-to-day work of GEMS drivers: vehicle pre- and post-trip inspections, vehicle cleanliness, reporting of repair needs, etc. Assists GEMS dispatcher in taking reservations, scheduling vehicles, logistics, and other administrative duties as needed. Inspects vehicles, policies, and laws frequently to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Educates staff regarding such as it relates to transportation. Knowledge of general vehicle care and routine maintenance. Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules. Knowledge of the geography of the City and surrounding communities. Knowledge of hazards involved in the work and safety precautions to be taken. Knowledge of data processing, office practices, procedures, equipment, and computer software. Ability to safely operate a 10-12 person passenger mini-bus with hydraulic equipment. Ability to work flexible hours and weekends, as needed. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Requires minimum of three (3) years supervisory/management/leadership experience. Requires two (2) years of public transportation experience. Ability to list and carry up to forty (40) pounds. P/T STAFF ASSISTANT– Performs routine clerical and secretarial support to the Public Works Department staff. Answers the telephone and greets the general public as well as providing support in gathering data and processing departmental mailings. Handles typing/word processing, copying, and filing. May assist with sending applicable notices and mailings and assists in maintenance of department filing system as well as records retention and destruction program. Preparation of draft correspondence, gathering information, data and performing research as requested by supervisor. General knowledge of modern business practices and procedures. Organizational skills and ability to answer telephones, take messages and greet visitors in a professional manner. Minimum two years’ experience as secretary/staff assistant. P/T SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD– Safety work in the regulation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in conjunction with the movement of children to and from school. Work is limited to those hours during which school is opening and closing and during lunch hour. Places school sentinel signs in the roadway at designated places near crossing points and removes them when no longer required. Assists children in crossing designated streets. Reports all traffic hazards to the police. Reports flagrant traffic violators and suspicious person loitering in the school area. Contacts school officials concerning children who do not cooperate in the accomplishing safety objectives. Performs related work as assigned. Ability to work regardless of weather conditions. Ability to accept, obey and carry out orders and special instructions. Ability to understand laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to traffic. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the public. Possession of a valid Florida’s Driver’s License. P/T EVENT STAFF – Support work for various Casino, Theater, and City-wide Special Event activities, including opening facilities for evening and weekend activities, greeting and providing customer service for patrons, setting up tables and chairs, collecting fees, custodial care, and other tasks as assigned. Strong customer service skills required and prior experience in cashiering, event set-ups, technical sound/lighting, and bartending preferred. Must be available to work flexible hours (weekends, weekdays, & holidays). Requires frequent lifting of 25-30lbs and occasional lifting of 35-40lbs. Florida Driver’s License is required. $12.064/HR. The Prescription Discount Card is made available to residents by the City of Gulfport in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC) and is made possible through The City of Gulfport membership in NLC.

The card is FREE to all Gulfport residents, regardless of age, income or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20% off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.
