Community Development
The Community Development Department is here to assist you with building permits, licensing, code compliance, and planning. For general departmental inquiries or escalation, Community Development Director Clark Streicher can be reached at 893-1020.
When calling any division, please leave a detailed message so staff can properly research your request before returning your call.
Building Division
For general permit questions, please contact our staff at 893-1086. If you need to speak directly with the Building Official, call 893-1105.
While homeowners can handle small, simple DIY projects, we strongly recommend considering a licensed contractor for more complex construction. Larger projects can quickly become overwhelming without professional construction and management experience.
All inspections must be scheduled on the inspection line; 893-1057. Cutoff for inspections is 3 p.m. on the business day before the desired inspection day. Inspection by affidavit or private provider must be prearranged with the building official, and must comply with Florida Building Code (FBC) – Building, Section 107.6 and Florida Statute 553.791.
On anything other than small and simple do it yourself (DIY) projects we recommend homeowners consider using a licensed contractor. Unless you are very handy and have the necessary skills to take on more complex construction projects, larger jobs can quickly overwhelm those less skilled in construction practices and management.
Business Tax Receipts
A business license, or tax receipt is good from October 1 of the current year through September 30 of the following year. If a license is not renewed by October 1, a 10 percent penalty will be applied for the month of October, and 5 percent for each month thereafter until it is paid. If you have paid your fee but continue to get a request for payment, let us know so we can correct your account. For questions regarding business tax receipts, call Lisa Giddens at 893-1063.
If you’re thinking about starting a new business, check out the Small Business Development Center at Pinellas County Economic Development. Visit the Pinellas County Economic Development website or call 464-7332 for information.
Code Enforcement
To report a potential municipal violation, contact Code Enforcement at 893-1061 or 893-1106. An inspector will conduct a site visit as soon as possible to verify the complaint. If an officer is unavailable, please leave a detailed message including the exact location and nature of the issue.
Important Statutory Notice: In accordance with Chapter 162 of the Florida Statutes, city staff is legally precluded from investigating anonymous code enforcement complaints. Individuals reporting a potential violation must provide their full name and address. Please note that any personal information provided becomes part of the public record and is subject to public review under Florida law.
Planning & Development
For zoning, land use, or development inquiries, please contact planning staff at 893-1023. If you require a meeting, please schedule a conference in advance so we can ensure adequate space is reserved for your group.
Zoning and land use maps, including the official zoning map, Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use map, are available on the City’s Community Development website. City Code, including Chapter 22 of the Gulfport Code of Ordinances (Zoning Code), can be reviewed online through Municode. Floodplain management questions can be directed to staff at 727-893-1023, and residents and professionals can also independently verify property zoning districts and flood zones through the City’s Forerunner platform.

An intoxicated man attempted to enter an apartment. When officers arrived, they determined that the man believed he was at his Airbnb. While trying to get into the apartment, he damaged the window screens. He agreed to reimburse the property owner for the damage and did so the following day. An officer provided the man with a ride to his actual Airbnb, which was nearby.
A man reported that his wallet and firearm were stolen from his unlocked work vehicle. The suspect later tried to use one of the victim’s stolen credit cards at a local business, but the transaction failed.
A resident discovered her husband unresponsive in bed. The circumstances initially raised concerns due to the several-hour delay in reporting the incident. However, officers later learned that the woman suffered from a medical condition that caused confusion, which helped explain the delay in notifying authorities.
A woman reported to Stetson Security that a man stole her purse and wallet before fleeing on a bicycle. The two had been collecting scrap items in nearby alleys when the victim placed her purse in a trailer attached to the man’s bicycle, and he immediately rode away with the purse. Sergeant Vandenberg located the man entering the CVS at 58th Street and Central Avenue, where he attempted to hide in the restroom. He was arrested on theft and narcotics charges, and the victim’s purse was recovered from the bicycle trailer outside the business.
A resident claimed her son threatened to kill her. During the investigation, officers learned that the woman suffers from dementia and has a history of making similar allegations during periods of confusion. Officers spoke with her son, who denied the allegations and advised that the family is working to place her in a memory care facility. An officer contacted the Gulfport Senior Center to explore possible assistance for the family.
A resident reported their e-bike stolen from their porch.
A man reported that someone stole the registration decal from his vehicle’s license plate. The decal was last seen two days before the report, and the theft location is unknown.
A man reported that he believed his ex-girlfriend had installed a tracking device in his vehicle. Officers examined the device and determined it was a Bluetooth device, not a tracking device. Officers determined the complaint was unfounded.
A vehicle traveling northbound collided with another vehicle that attempted to merge into its lane. The other driver fled the scene without stopping.
Someone accessed a resident’s bank account and created a fraudulent email address and phone number associated with it. The suspect then attempted to wire $256,000 from the victim’s account.
A resident reported that someone stole a plastic goose valued at $20 from the front porch of a residence sometime overnight.
