Get to Know Gulfport Step by Step

Known as the “Gateway to the Gulf,” Gulfport invites residents and visitors alike to experience its vibrant central district and the many hidden gems beyond. In addition to the city’s celebrated waterfront, Gulfport offers a rich mix of parks, historic homes, peaceful waterways, scenic streetscapes, public art, local businesses, and charming tree-lined lanes — all easily explored on foot.

The Discover Gulfport Walking Trail is designed to offer an immersive experience into what makes Gulfport such a distinctive and timeless destination. Each trail segment features sidewalks and, where applicable, marked crosswalks across major roads for ease and safety.

  • The 1.3-mile “First Discovery Loop” (marked in red) offers an excellent introduction to Gulfport, highlighting key landmarks such as Clymer Park, the Art Walk & Food Forest, Hickman Theater, Gulfport Public Library, and the Gulfport History Museum — all sites worth revisiting time and again.

  • The extended 3.3-mile “Discovery Path” (marked in yellow) includes much of the red loop while expanding to showcase Wood Ibis Park, Tomlinson Park, the Tangerine Greenway, Veterans Park, and the iconic Gulfport Pier along with additional scenic waterfront routes. This route can be explored all at once or enjoyed in smaller segments.
  • Other supplemental routes:
    • The northerly “Blue” Explore Path connects with the Yellow trail at several points. The Blue path provides walkers with a route to the Pinellas Trail at the northernmost border of Gulfport. It also connects to the vibrant commercial area around 15th Ave S & 58th Street S to the west. To the east, the Blue extension path also extends out along the eastern half of the Tangerine Greenway, tracing the route of Gulfport’s historic electric trolley line and features wooden pedestrian bridges and open parkland. At its eastern edge, this route reaches historic Trolley Market Square, a vibrant, history-inspired public plaza and gateway park featuring a replica trolley car like the ones that ran in Gulfport until 1948.
    • The southeastern “Green” Explore Path connects with the Yellow and Red trail. This path takes walkers past Gulfport’s scenic Municipal Marina to the Clam Bayou Nature Park, a peaceful nature area featuring wooden boardwalks that wind through mangrove forests, offering prime views of local wildlife and coastal waters.
    • The south-central and southwestern “Purple” Explore Path guides walkers from both the Yellow and Red paths down through the culinary and social epicenter of Gulfport’s Downtown Village. This path runs along both sides of the main commercial corridor, showcasing Gulfport’s eclectic boutiques, restaurants, and galleries. This path continues along Gulfport’s glistening waterfront promenade, past sand-volleyball courts and its stretch of free-use beachfront, toward its southwest-most point, where this path concludes with a beautiful Beachfront Loop that wraps around for a panoramic, unobstructed 270-degree view of the Bay with vistas of Gulfport’s Williams Pier and historic Casino to the east and iconic buildings such as St Pete Beach’s Don Cesar across the expanse of water to the west.  A bit farther to the east, this path also offers walkers a look at some of Gulfport’s impressive historic homes, including the Villa Roebuck, home to Sears-Roebuck’s co-founder more than 100 years ago.

Public parking, restrooms, and notable points of interest along and near the trail routes are clearly marked on the accompanying map.
