Update on City of Gulfport Call Center - 9/1/2019 - 2PM

The City of Gulfport Citizens Information Call Center is now closed. Residents with questions can call the Pinellas County Citizens Information Call Center at 727-464-4333 for preparedness questions. Residents can also access live chat support at www.pinellascounty.org.#PinellasDorian #Dorian

City Operations will resume normal business hours at 8am on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
 
While the weather forecast has brought optimism to the City of Gulfport, City staff remains prepared to respond. The City of Gulfport Public Work’s Sanitation service continues to operate on the normal collection schedules.
 
The City of Gulfport Regular City Council Meeting will convene as scheduled Tuesday Night, September 3, at 7pm, at City Hall – City Council Chambers.
 
  • As of 8 a.m. Sunday, an estimated 2,250 sandbags have been distributed. Sandbag distribution will continue today, Sunday, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the 49th Street Neighborhood Center while supplies last.
 
  • As of 8 a.m. Sunday, the Citizens Information Call Center received more than 50 calls. The call center will continue today, Sunday from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Call (727) 893-1000.
 
Storm impacts are still possible for the City of Gulfport due to the unpredictable track of Hurricane Dorian. Residents are reminded to stay prepared through the coming days.
 
City staff continues to closely monitor the storm. We will update our storm response strategy, including resource needs, based on any forecast changes. Any change in strategy will ensure we respond to resident’s needs as quickly and safely as possible. We encourage all of our residents to remain vigilant and prepared for this storm.

The City of Gulfport Public Works Department distributed 1,600 sandbags today at the 49th Street Neighborhood Center, 1617 49th Street South. Sandbag operations will resume, 8AM-8PM through Sunday. The City of Gulfport Regular City Council Meeting will convene as scheduled Tuesday Night, September 3, at 7pm, at City Hall – City Council Chambers.

City of Gulfport offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, for the Labor Day Holiday and, as of now, the City of Gulfport offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 3, for Hurricane Dorian.

The City of Gulfport Public Work’s Sanitation service continues to operate on the normal collection schedules.

In partnership with other government agencies, the following City operations/facilities will be closed on Tuesday, September 3.

• The City of Gulfport City Hall
• The City of Gulfport Cultural Facilities
• The City of Gulfport Recreation Center
• The City of Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center
• The City of Gulfport Community Development
• The City of Gulfport Public Library

Regardless of Hurricane Dorian’s eventual track, high winds, rain and flooding may affect City of Gulfport residents for several days. Be prepared for loss of power.

• The City of Gulfport Citizens Information Call Center will be open thru Sunday from 8AM – 8PM to answer any specifics. Residents with questions can call (727) 893-1000 during operational hours.

• Sandbags are available at the 49th Street Neighborhood Center (1617 49th Street South) from 8AM-8PM thru Sunday or until inclement weather begins. There is a 10-bag limit and proof of residency may be required.

• Register for special needs shelters by calling the Citizens Information Center at 727-464-4333. More information: http://www.pinellascounty.org/emergency/specialneeds.htm

• Purchase necessary items to complete your stay/go kit now. Keep your neighbors in mind while at the store and at the pump. Purchase only what you and your family would need.

• Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County urges residents to refill their prescription medications. It is not known how the hurricane will impact the region, but it’s important to make sure required prescription medication is available.

• Clear your yard and patio of debris or loose items that could become projectiles in high winds. Such items should be secured or placed in a protected building or structure.

• Any resident who previously experienced flooding in their area should prepare for the risk of flooding. But remember: anywhere it rains, it can flood.

• Locate your evacuation zone: www.pinellascounty.org/knowyourzone

• Mobile and manufactured homes residents must prepare to evacuate when an evacuation is ordered. Mobile homes, manufactured homes and recreational vehicles are not sturdy enough to withstand the strong winds of a hurricane.

The City of Gulfport and Pinellas County’s Emergency Management continues to monitor the developing weather related to Hurricane Dorian (for severe weather impacts) currently located southeast of the State of Florida. Residents and businesses are urged to Know Your Risk, Make a Plan, and Stay Informed.

City of Gulfport Public Works crews are checking and cleaning drainage structures, removing right of way impediments ahead of the anticipated weather event. The following City services are available for City Residents:

  • Sandbags will be made available at the 49th Street Neighborhood Center (1617 49th Street South) from 1PM-8PM today, and from 8AM-8PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or until inclement weather begins. There is 10-bag limit and proof of residency may be required.
  • The Citizens Information Call Center will open at 4PM today and remain open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8AM-8PM. Residents with Hurricane Dorian related questions can call the City of Gulfport Citizen Information Call Center at (727) 893-1000.
