Guidelines

Mission

To provide relief to small businesses impacted by COVID‐19 and to ensure the resiliency of local businesses and assist in job retention, the City of Gulfport established the Gulfport Gateway Grant Program for eligible small businesses.

This is an emergency grant program for the City of Gulfport’s negatively impacted independently operated small businesses. Grants will be awarded to eligible, qualified small businesses based on the availability of funds, program guidelines, and the submission of all required information and supporting documentation.

Funding

$50,000 of the City of Gulfport’s unrestricted General Fund Balance will be authorized for 40 one time only $1,000 grants and 20 $500 grants to eligible applicants. An applicant that is deemed eligible will receive a grant in the form of a credit on the applicant’s City of Gulfport utility bill.

Application Process

Applications for eligible businesses will be available beginning on May 6, 2020. There are limited funds that will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. In order to be considered the applicant must have submitted a completed and signed application, including submission of all required information and supporting documentation as noted on the application. Funding will be available until September 30, 2020 or until funds have been exhausted.

Eligible Applicants

  • Must be physically located within the municipal boundaries of the City of Gulfport
  • Must be independently operated
  • Must be a brick and mortar location
  • Employ between 3-50 full-time equivalent employees (February 2020) Eligible for a $1,000 Credit
  • Employ between *1-2 full-time equivalent employees (February 2020) Eligible for a $500 Credit
  • Suffered a loss of revenue due to COVID-19
  • Must have a current City of Gulfport business tax license
  • In operation during February 2020 and had employees for whom it paid salaries and payroll taxes**

Ineligible Applicants
Businesses that are NOT eligible to request or receive the Gulfport Gateway Grant, but are not limited to:

  • Nonprofit entities
  • Any business owner who has already received the Gulfport Gateway Grant for another business
  • Any business that has an outstanding Code Enforcement or Utility Lien with the City of Gulfport

 

Eligible Use of Funding

The Grant will be issued in the form of a credit on the business’s utility bill, and therefore that is the sole use of the grant funding.

 

Disclosures

The submitted Application, including attachments, is subject to disclosure under Florida’s public records law subject to limited applicable exemptions. Applicant acknowledges, understands, and agrees that all information in its application and attachments will be disclosed, without any notice to Applicant, if a public records request is made for such information, and the City will not be liable to Applicant for such disclosure.

The Gulfport Gateway Grant may be considered taxable income therefore you should contact your financial advisor for guidance.
