P/T LIBRARY ASSISTANT II– Specialized technical and clerical support and public contact work, using personal computers and an online cataloging and circulation system. Work requires independent judgment and action within well-established policies and procedures. Work with patrons and maintain a high level of customer service even in difficult situations. Work with computerized circulation software and other library databases and websites. Checks out books and other material, processes new library cards, and maintains records of fines and fees. Maintains orderly flow of returned materials, shelves books, replaces materials and empties the book drop. Assists in the search and recovery of library materials. Performs related work as required. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changes in the library environment. Ability to learn and apply complex automated procedures. Knowledge of the services and operations of Libraries. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Requires walking, standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, crawling, bending, stooping and reaching. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by computer keyboarding courses, training or experience. Two (2) years of specific experience with library automation systems. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. GEMS DRIVER – Operates a 10-12 passenger mini-bus, sedan style automobile, and/or van. Operates hydraulic wheelchair lift as needed while assisting elderly and disabled passengers on and off vehicle. Lifts and carries groceries and personal belongings for clients. Responsible for keeping vehicle clean (interior and exterior). Performs daily safety inspections of vehicle. Ability to make routine decisions in accordance with city and departmental policies, procedures and regulations. Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinance and rules. Knowledge of the geography of the City and surrounding communities. Takes reservations/cancellations, registers new participants and collects fees. Operates two-way radio for contacting and dispatching mini-bus drivers. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Ability to lift and carry up to twenty (20) pounds. Experience with the elderly or handicapped is preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. F/T MAINTENANCE WORKER I (Parks) – Limited semi-skilled manual work involving custodial care, construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings, parks, beaches, playgrounds, athletic fields and grounds. Weeds flower beds and collects and disposes of tree limbs, shrub trimmings and other rubbish and debris. Operates small mowers, edgers, power blowers, weed eaters, chain saws and other grounds related equipment. Performs custodial duties such as sanitizing restroom facilities, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing and buffing of floors, as well as, the dusting and polishing of furniture and other fixtures. Washes windows, walls and doors. Replaces towels, tissue and soap. Assists in the ordering of supplies. Collects and disposes of paper and trash. Reports broken furniture, damage to property, and any irregularities. Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends. Knowledge of cleaning practices, supplies and equipment. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of park areas. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. $11.892 per hour. Open until filled. F/T EQUIPMENT OPERATOR (SANITATION) – Performs heavy manual labor in the collection and disposal of all types of waste and refuse materials for the Sanitation division of the Public Works Department. Drives the sanitation truck and is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment while using caution in order to avoid accidents and injuries. Collects waste and refuse, empties contents of the refuse cans into sanitation truck. Rakes and loads grass and brush collections. Cleans refuse and trash from trucks and equipment. Performs general housekeeping for all sanitation areas and equipment. Reports violations of refuse ordinances to the Sanitation Crew Leader. Ability to understand, communicate, and follow instructions. Ability to operate sanitation trucks and packer equipment. Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years’ experience in the operation of solid waste vehicles and equipment. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License, with air brake endorsement. P/T HORTICULTURALIST– Performs skilled and semi-skilled work related to horticulture functions in the City’s Parks and Facilities Department. Manages the application of chemicals and fertilizers. Designs and plans annual, perennial, and other displays’ evaluates and recommends improvements. Performs cosmetic pruning of trees using proper International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) pruning standards. Knowledge of practices and principles of horticulture and arboriculture. Ability to identify a wide variety of landscape plants by botanical and common name. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city departments, supervisors, other public agencies, and vendors. Knowledge of the use and capabilities of various maintenance equipment, materials, chemicals, and fertilizers. Knowledge of irrigation system installations and minor repairs. Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by vocational course work in horticulture or arboriculture; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Hold a Limited Certification for Lawn and Ornamental (Chapter 482) for government employees or the ability to obtain with eighteen months of hire. Florida Driver’s License is required. $16.733/HR. P/T FLEET MAINTENANCE CLERK– Skilled work responsible for collecting and maintaining vehicle repair and part invoices/inventory and routine clerical and support work in the Public Services Garage. Obtains prices for vehicle parts for work to be done by vendor; prepare necessary purchase requisitions, and or/request for payment based on vendor invoices against running balances on blanket purchase orders, to order parts as directed. Organizes material and labor data as input to monthly departmental reports; prepares time keeping records for self, maintains files, reports and other documents including fleet maintenance records on a PC computer system as needed. Monitors fuel inventory daily by observing meters and measuring depth in tanks. Makes periodic reports of same. Orders fuel when necessary. Maintains cleanliness and inventory of parts room and fuel inventories. High School Diploma or GED Equivalency. Experience in servicing automotive equipment. Experience in clerical work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Florida Driver’s License is required. $14.454/HR. P/T GEMS COORDINATOR– Responsible for coordinating and facilitating the provisions of quality care and transportation of the elderly population. Assists Senior Services Supervisor with the recruitment, hiring, training, and annual evaluations of GEMS staff. Supervises the day-to-day work of GEMS drivers: vehicle pre- and post-trip inspections, vehicle cleanliness, reporting of repair needs, etc. Assists GEMS dispatcher in taking reservations, scheduling vehicles, logistics, and other administrative duties as needed. Inspects vehicles, policies, and laws frequently to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Educates staff regarding such as it relates to transportation. Knowledge of general vehicle care and routine maintenance. Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules. Knowledge of the geography of the City and surrounding communities. Knowledge of hazards involved in the work and safety precautions to be taken. Knowledge of data processing, office practices, procedures, equipment, and computer software. Ability to safely operate a 10-12 person passenger mini-bus with hydraulic equipment. Ability to work flexible hours and weekends, as needed. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Requires minimum of three (3) years supervisory/management/leadership experience. Requires two (2) years of public transportation experience. Ability to list and carry up to forty (40) pounds. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. Entry $13.111 per hour. Open until filled. P/T EVENT STAFF– Support work for various Casino, Theater, and City-wide Special Event activities, including opening facilities for evening and weekend activities, greeting and providing customer service for patrons, setting up tables and chairs, collecting fees, custodial care, and other tasks as assigned. Strong customer service skills required and prior experience in cashiering, event set-ups, technical sound/lighting, and bartending preferred. Must be available to work flexible hours (weekends, weekdays, & holidays). Requires frequent lifting of 25-30lbs and occasional lifting of 35-40lbs. Florida Driver’s License is required. $12.486/HR. The Prescription Discount Card is made available to residents by the City of Gulfport in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC) and is made possible through The City of Gulfport membership in NLC.

The card is FREE to all Gulfport residents, regardless of age, income or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20% off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.
