F/T EQUIPMENT OPERATOR (SANITATION)Performs heavy manual labor in the collection and disposal of all types of waste and refuse materials for the Sanitation division of the Public Works Department. Drives the sanitation truck and is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment while using caution in order to avoid accidents and injuries. Collects waste and refuse, empties contents of the refuse cans into sanitation truck. Rakes and loads grass and brush collections. Cleans refuse and trash from trucks and equipment. Performs general housekeeping for all sanitation areas and equipment. Reports violations of refuse ordinances to the Sanitation Crew Leader. Ability to understand, communicate, and follow instructions. Ability to operate sanitation trucks and packer equipment. Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years’ experience in the operation of solid waste vehicles and equipment. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License, with air brake endorsement. F/T MAINTENANCE WORKER I (Parks)Limited semi-skilled manual work involving custodial care, construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings, parks, beaches, playgrounds, athletic fields and grounds. Weeds flower beds and collects and disposes of tree limbs, shrub trimmings and other rubbish and debris. Operates small mowers, edger’s, power blowers, weed eaters, chain saws and other grounds related equipment. Performs custodial duties such as sanitizing restroom facilities, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing and buffing of floors, as well as, the dusting and polishing of furniture and other fixtures. Washes windows, walls and doors. Replaces towels, tissue and soap. Assists in the ordering of supplies. Collects and disposes of paper and trash. Reports broken furniture, damage to property, and any irregularities. Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends. Knowledge of cleaning practices, supplies and equipment. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of park areas. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. $12.702 per hour. Open until filled. P/T SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDSafety work in the regulation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in conjunction with the movement of children to and from school. Work is limited to those hours during which school is opening and closing and during lunch hour. Places school sentinel signs in the roadway at designated places near crossing points and removes them when no longer required. Assists children in crossing designated streets. Reports all traffic hazards to the police. Reports flagrant traffic violators and suspicious person loitering in the school area. Contacts school officials concerning children who do not cooperate in the accomplishing safety objectives. Performs related work as assigned. Ability to work regardless of weather conditions. Ability to accept, obey and carry out orders and special instructions. Ability to understand laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to traffic. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the public. Possession of a valid Florida’s Driver’s License. P/T GEMS DRIVEROperates a 10-12 passenger mini-bus, sedan style automobile, and/or van. Operates hydraulic wheelchair lift as needed while assisting elderly and disabled passengers on and off vehicle. Lifts and carries groceries and personal belongings for clients. Responsible for keeping vehicle clean (interior and exterior). Performs daily safety inspections of vehicle. Ability to make routine decisions in accordance with city and departmental policies, procedures and regulations. Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinance and rules. Knowledge of the geography of the City and surrounding communities. Takes reservations/cancellations, registers new participants and collects fees. Operates two-way radio for contacting and dispatching mini-bus drivers. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Ability to lift and carry up to twenty (20) pounds. Experience with the elderly or handicapped is preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. F/T STAFF ASSISTANTPerforms routine clerical and secretarial support to the department staff. In addition, answers the telephone and greets the general public as well as providing support in gathering data and processing departmental mailings. Handles typing/word processing, copying, filing and answering the telephones for department. Interacts with the general public and may assist with sending of applicable notices and mailings and assists in maintenance of departmental filing system as well as records retention and destruction program. General knowledge of modern business practices and procedures. Organizational skills and ability to answer telephones, take messages and greet visitors in a professional manner. Knowledge of word processing is a plus. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the public. Possession of a valid Florida’s Driver’s License. RECREATION LEADER City of Gulfport. Immediate part-time position available for the School Year Child Care Program. Experience in education, physical education or child care preferred. Knowledge of licensing requirements, recreational activities including games, arts & crafts and sports. Minimum qualifications include high school diploma or equivalency and ability to meet the personnel standards required by the Pinellas County License Board and the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas, Inc. P/T LIBRARY ASSISTANT I Specialized technical and clerical support and public contract work, suing personal computers and an online cataloging and circulation system. Work requires independent judgment and action within well-established policies and procedures. Work also requires a high-level of customer service. Position is under the direct supervision of the circulation manager. Work with patrons and maintain high level o customer service even in difficult situations. Work with computerized circulation software and other library databases and websites. Maintains the operations of the circulation desk according to established procedures. Checks out books and other materials. Processes new library cards. Maintains records of fines and fees. Maintains orderly flow of returned materials; shelves books, replace other materials. Process library materials. Empties book drop. Assist in the search and recovery of library materials. Monitors and replenishes supplies from centralized stock for staff and patrons. Assist with programs and special projects. Assist with computers and computer sign-ups. Performs related work as required. F/T TEAM LEAD Responsible for generating all utility and marina customer billing, preparing work orders, making changes to the customer databases and accepting utility, marina and all cash receipt payments into the system. The Team Lead acts as a liaison between the administrative services technicians, and the accounting manager in the areas of process improvements, escalated customer concerns and troubleshooting software. Receives service fees from the public and prepares customer receipts. Balances cash on hand against receipts. Submits forms regarding fees collected for private utilities. Checks and verifies data and corrects inaccuracies. Receives and processes requests from the public for the initiation and discontinuance of City utility services. Resolves customer issues and complaints and meets with customers who have unresolved concerns. Schedules all aspects of utility billing. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual utility billing and reports. Processes and reviews delinquent statements, service charges and terminations. Prepares delinquent notices and other follow up letters to customers. Ability to handle switchboard duties. Responsible to coordinate and report to the Accounting Manager regarding account billing/collection schedules and workloads of the Administrative Service Technicians as well as identify problems and recommend improvements to the accounting and billing system. Knowledge of the principles and practices of cashiering. Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and equipment. Ability to accurately perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to receive cash and make change quickly and accurately. Ability to exercise good judgement while making decisions in accordance with policies, regulations and procedures. Ability to operate a computer terminal. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Knowledge of computer utilization in utility billing operations. Knowledge of standard software applications including Word and Excel. Ability to communicate well with customers, on the phone, by letter and in person. Ability to deal with people effectively and diplomatically. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Four (4) years’ experience in customer service work including two (2) years in a supervisory or lead worker capacity. Prior experience in a utility operation in municipal environment is desirable. The card is FREE to all Gulfport residents, regardless of age, income or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20% off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.
