F/T MAINTENANCE WORKER II (Parks) – Performs semi-skilled work for jobs related to the maintenance of City grounds. Mows and rakes grass, plants, fertilizes and waters grass, shrubs and flowers. Weeds flower beds, collects and disposes of tree limbs, shrub trimmings and other rubbish and debris. Moves and aids in the moving of heavy equipment. Operates power saws, bench grinders, pressure cleaning equipment, tractors, trimmers, small trucks and automotive equipment. Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions. Ability to perform the more routine tasks associated with the trade. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor tasks for extended periods of time in unfavorable weather. Must be able to lift more than 40 pounds. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years’ experience in semi-skilled maintenance work or grounds keeping. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. Entry $13.111 per hour. Open until filled. F/T CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER – Responsible code enforcement work in the investigation and enforcement of certain City, County and State codes regarding nuisances, heath and sanitation, zoning and building requirements. Patrols the City in a marked vehicle to look for violations of violations of City Ordinances. Makes routine inspections of residential and commercial properties for possible violations of the City, County and State regulations regarding City occupational licenses, nuisances, lot mowing, portable signs, fences, parking, health and sanitation, minimum housing and general littering of the City, including City easements and right-of-ways. Responds to a variety of non-hazardous and non-criminal calls for service. Receives, records, processes, and conducts investigative work regarding complaints from citizens. Prepares, inputs, and maintains records and files supporting code cases. Coordinates with City Attorney and City Magistrate to attend legal proceedings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions. Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others. Ability to obtain information through interview and observation. Ability to learn department functions, practices, general orders, rules, regulations, City and County ordinances, and State laws as applicable to the functions of the job. Ability to use a personal computer. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Code enforcement experience is preferred. Law enforcement experience is desirable. Possession of a Florida Driver’s License. Certification by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement is preferred. P/T LIBRARY ASSISTANT I –Specialized technical and clerical support and public contract work, suing personal computers and an online cataloging and circulation system. Work requires independent judgment and action within well-established policies and procedures. Work also requires a high-level of customer service. Position is under the direct supervision of the circulation manager. Work with patrons and maintain high level o customer service even in difficult situations. Work with computerized circulation software and other library databases and websites. Maintains the operations of the circulation desk according to established procedures. Checks out books and other materials. Processes new library cards. Maintains records of fines and fees. Maintains orderly flow of returned materials; shelves books, replace other materials. Process library materials. Empties book drop. Assist in the search and recovery of library materials. Monitors and replenishes supplies from centralized stock for staff and patrons. Assist with programs and special projects. Assist with computers and computer sign-ups. Performs related work as required. P/T GEMS DRIVER – Operates a 10-12 passenger mini-bus, sedan style automobile, and/or van. Operates hydraulic wheelchair lift as needed while assisting elderly and disabled passengers on and off vehicle. Lifts and carries groceries and personal belongings for clients. Responsible for keeping vehicle clean (interior and exterior). Performs daily safety inspections of vehicle. Ability to make routine decisions in accordance with city and departmental policies, procedures and regulations. Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinance and rules. Knowledge of the geography of the City and surrounding communities. Takes reservations/cancellations, registers new participants and collects fees. Operates two-way radio for contacting and dispatching mini-bus drivers. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Ability to lift and carry up to twenty (20) pounds. Experience with the elderly or handicapped is preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. F/T EQUIPMENT OPERATOR (SANITATION) – Performs heavy manual labor in the collection and disposal of all types of waste and refuse materials for the Sanitation division of the Public Works Department. Drives the sanitation truck and is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment while using caution in order to avoid accidents and injuries. Collects waste and refuse, empties contents of the refuse cans into sanitation truck. Rakes and loads grass and brush collections. Cleans refuse and trash from trucks and equipment. Performs general housekeeping for all sanitation areas and equipment. Reports violations of refuse ordinances to the Sanitation Crew Leader. Ability to understand, communicate, and follow instructions. Ability to operate sanitation trucks and packer equipment. Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years’ experience in the operation of solid waste vehicles and equipment. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License, with air brake endorsement. P/T HORTICULTURALIST– Performs skilled and semi-skilled work related to horticulture functions in the City’s Parks and Facilities Department. Manages the application of chemicals and fertilizers. Designs and plans annual, perennial, and other displays’ evaluates and recommends improvements. Performs cosmetic pruning of trees using proper International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) pruning standards. Knowledge of practices and principles of horticulture and arboriculture. Ability to identify a wide variety of landscape plants by botanical and common name. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city departments, supervisors, other public agencies, and vendors. Knowledge of the use and capabilities of various maintenance equipment, materials, chemicals, and fertilizers. Knowledge of irrigation system installations and minor repairs. Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by vocational course work in horticulture or arboriculture; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Hold a Limited Certification for Lawn and Ornamental (Chapter 482) for government employees or the ability to obtain with eighteen months of hire. Florida Driver’s License is required. $16.733/HR. A pre-employment drug screen, criminal history background investigation, physical, and driver’s license verification may be conducted. E.O.E.


P/T EVENT STAFF– Support work for various Casino, Theater, and City-wide Special Event activities, including opening facilities for evening and weekend activities, greeting and providing customer service for patrons, setting up tables and chairs, collecting fees, custodial care, and other tasks as assigned. Strong customer service skills required and prior experience in cashiering, event set-ups, technical sound/lighting, and bartending preferred. Must be available to work flexible hours (weekends, weekdays, & holidays). Requires frequent lifting of 25-30lbs and occasional lifting of 35-40lbs. Florida Driver’s License is required. $12.486/HR. The Prescription Discount Card is made available to residents by the City of Gulfport in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC) and is made possible through The City of Gulfport membership in NLC.

The card is FREE to all Gulfport residents, regardless of age, income or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20% off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.
