F/T ACCOUNTING TECHNICIANResponsible clerical and accounting work in the preparation and maintenance of purchasing, financial records and reports. Enters journal entries, budget adjustments and miscellaneous transactions into the system. Identifies and tags fixed assets and enters asset information into the fixed asset program. Updates all accounting reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Ensures the vendor applications and database file is properly maintained. Reconciles balance sheet accounts. Prepares monthly fuel tax rebate documents, quarterly tax returns, and other miscellaneous accounts receivable. Completes monthly allocation of administrative charges, vehicle maintenance charges, copy machine and other administrative charges. Serves in a staff position as a “confidential” employee. Knowledge of office procedures, practices and equipment. Knowledge of bookkeeping and governmental accounting principles and procedures. Proficiency in Word, Excel and other computer skills required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors and the general public. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by two (2) year degree from an accredited college in accounting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. P/T SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDSafety work in the regulation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in conjunction with the movement of children to and from school. Work is limited to those hours during which school is opening and closing and during lunch hour. Places school sentinel signs in the roadway at designated places near crossing points and removes them when no longer required. Assists children in crossing designated streets. Reports all traffic hazards to the police. Reports flagrant traffic violators and suspicious person loitering in the school area. Contacts school officials concerning children who do not cooperate in the accomplishing safety objectives. Performs related work as assigned. Ability to work regardless of weather conditions. Ability to accept, obey and carry out orders and special instructions. Ability to understand laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to traffic. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the public. Possession of a valid Florida’s Driver’s License. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Background checks, fingerprints, drug screening and physicals will be conducted. Entry $11.325/hour. P/T EVENT STAFFSupport work for various Casino, Theater, and City-wide Special Event activities, including opening facilities for evening and weekend activities, greeting and providing customer service for patrons, setting up tables and chairs, collecting fees, custodial care, and other tasks as assigned. Strong customer service skills required and prior experience in cashiering, event set-ups, technical sound/lighting, and bartending preferred. Must be available to work flexible hours (weekends, weekdays, & holidays). Requires frequent lifting of 25-30lbs and occasional lifting of 35-40lbs. Florida Driver’s License is required. $12.486/HR. P/T MARINA ASSISTANTResponsible for maintenance and clerical work of the Municipal Marina. Ability to maintain maintenance work orders and clerical records. Ability to perform maintenance duties accurately and safely. Knowledge use of power tools, hand tools and measuring devices. Knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing. Knowledge of boating, weather and familiarity with local waterways. Receives checks, stores and sells a variety of merchandise. Assists in maintaining inventory, Operates cash register. Must be able to handle sales through the use of credit cards. The ability to climb on and off vessels, lift 50lbs and walk an average of five (5) miles per day. Able to work in hot weather conditions. Able to work weekends and all holidays. Must be able to work flexible hours which are often dictated by weather. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable diploma. Possession of valid driver license. Entry $ 11.892 per hour. Open until filled. F/T PERMIT TECHNICIANPerforms technical and clerical duties in receiving, reviewing and processing applications for the issuance of commercial and residential construction permits. Receives, reviews and verifies the content of commercial and residential construction permit applications for completeness, to include reviewing blueprints, site plans and technical drawings, to ensure minimum standards have been met in accordance with established procedures, codes and ordinances. Advises contractors, homeowners and the general public on the construction permit application process. Prepares construction permits and calculates permit fees to ensure the appropriate permits have been issued. Reviews flood elevation certificates for compliance with federal requirements and enters information into a database. Researches files and related databases to extract data needed to resolve problems concerning permit issuance. Complies, prepares and maintains construction permit files and records. Working knowledge of the minimum requirements of federal, state and local building and zoning codes and ordinances. Ability to review blueprints, site plans and technical drawings for minimum standards. Ability to interpret and explain codes, ordinances, statutes and laws governing the permitting process. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; and two (2) years of experience involving the receiving, reviewing and processing of applications for the issuance of residential or commercial construction permits; supplemented by three (3) years of general clerical experience. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum, qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. Entry $15.177/hour. Open until filled. P/T HORTICULTURALIST – Performs skilled and semi-skilled work related to horticulture functions in the City’s Parks and Facilities Department. Manages the application of chemicals and fertilizers. Designs and plans annual, perennial, and other displays’ evaluates and recommends improvements. Performs cosmetic pruning of trees using proper International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) pruning standards. Knowledge of practices and principles of horticulture and arboriculture. Ability to identify a wide variety of landscape plants by botanical and common name. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city departments, supervisors, other public agencies, and vendors. Knowledge of the use and capabilities of various maintenance equipment, materials, chemicals, and fertilizers. Knowledge of irrigation system installations and minor repairs. Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by vocational course work in horticulture or arboriculture; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Hold a Limited Certification for Lawn and Ornamental (Chapter 482) for government employees or the ability to obtain with eighteen months of hire. Florida Driver’s License is required. $16.733/HR. The Prescription Discount Card is made available to residents by the City of Gulfport in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC) and is made possible through The City of Gulfport membership in NLC.

The card is FREE to all Gulfport residents, regardless of age, income or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20% off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.
