Hello Gulfport Neighbors,
I asked for more civic engagement and I got it. The council moved around council comments so we have an opportunity to respond to some of your public comments in a more timely fashion. You asked for more discussion on the dais and you got it.
I’m frequently asked, how is it going? I’m not sure if folks mean professionally or personally. So let me do my best to answer both. Personally, I get great satisfaction in being able to help someone solve their problem. I’ve come to realize how much damage is done based on rumor and inaccurate information.
As a member of council, we have addressed many of the hard questions while we learn some of our state laws that tie our hands. Our meetings are long and sometimes trying, but we know we owe it to the residents to listen, respond, and initiate plans while trying to handle required administrative business at the same time.
In addition to 30 hours of meetings in Gulfport during May, I attended 6 meetings including Forward Pinellas, and Florida Department of Emergency Management, outside of Gulfport. I lead Gulfport Recovers, a volunteer group, as well as the Memorial Day commemoration. I showed up at Little League games and clean ups. Most mornings I drive to the waterfront and downtown areas while listening to others who are out and about. I drive or pedal through the marina area several times a week checking in with residents and contractors working on their homes. The top 2 concerns on everyone’s mind are permitting concerns and fear of what 2025 will bring. If I look tired, I hope you understand why.
