Crime Prevention and Community Programs
Neighborhood Watch Programs:
Neighborhood Watch meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm. Meetings are held at City Hall – Council Chambers, 2401 53rd St S.
You can become a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and help support Gulfport Neighborhood Watch. Whatever your level of interest, we can help. The Gulfport Police Department, through its Volunteer Coordinator, will help you with training to become a Block Captain, help you get organized, and provide tips and other information. We encourage all Gulfport residents to participate in our monthly meetings!

Security Surveys
We have officers who have special certifications based on advanced training and experience in crime prevention through environmental design. These officers can survey your property and provide expert tips on simple, cost-effective improvements that you can make to reduce your risk of being victimized. To schedule a survey, contact us at 727-893-1041.
Citizens Police Academy
Typically once per year (more or less depending on demand), we host a Citizens’ Academy. It gives participants an in-depth look at how we do business. The program runs for eight-ten weeks, one night per week, and attendees will experience everything from the crash investigation and communications center to the gun range and the pursuit driving course. For more information, contact the program coordinator at 727-893-1028.
Citizen's Police Academy
The annual Citizens’ Police Academy, organized by the Gulfport Police Department.
These weekly classes occur every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participants have the unique chance to gain insights and first-hand experiences into the daily activities of Gulfport police officers and department staff as they deliver police services to the community. The curriculum incorporates a blend of hands-on field trips and traditional classroom sessions.
Applicants must be over the age of 16 and pass a background investigation. Please apply early as there are only limited spots available and they fill up quickly. Preference given to Gulfport residents. For further information, please contact Sergeant Robert Burkhart at 727-893-1028 or email rburkhart@mygulfport.us.
