One Captain, four Sergeants, and sixteen Officers comprise the patrol division, and together, they provide patrol coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year for the City of Gulfport.

Our philosophy is community policing, meaning each officer has a vested interest in solving problems and developing police-community partnerships. For this reason, officers engage in various activities, such as frequent foot patrols where they can spend time discussing issues with residents and businesses.

Patrol officers work twelve-hour shifts, so there is always one squad on duty. Detectives and command staff members often supplement the patrol squads as well. The squad supervisors are listed below. View the zone map.

Traffic

If you have a complaint about an ongoing traffic issue in your neighborhood, please contact us. If enforcement and alternative measures are unsuccessful at resolving the problem, a traffic calming project may be considered.

The City of Gulfport can boast having among the lowest traffic fatality and serious injuries among all of Pinellas County’s municipalities. That said, we are part of one of the most dangerous regions in the entire United States, especially when it comes to the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians.

For the benefit of those using our public roadways, Gulfport officers take an aggressive stance against traffic violators. We employ several tools in this effort, including unmarked patrol cars, RADAR and LIDAR (laser) speed measuring devices, regular enforcement details, and public education campaigns.

Marine Patrol

Gulfport Police patrol nearly nine miles of coastline along the Boca Ciega Bay, as well as the entire open waterway between Gulfport, St. Pete Beach, Maximo, and the Pinellas Bayway. To ensure this popular waterway is safe, we employ a Zodiac patrol vessel. This boat is a rigid inflatable, which is designed to faciliate safe and simple contact with other boats on the water. This LE2400 model is specifically designed for military and law enforcement work.

Several of our officers are trained to operate this vessel, which is a volunteer assignment above and beyond the officers’ regular duties.
